Working Together to Protect our Children

Tips for Protecting Your Children Online:

Anyone with an electronic device is only two clicks away from pornography… and that includes your children.

I carried HB 1181 to protect minors from pornography online. While it’s an honor to lead on the issue of protecting children online as a State Senator, I am even more passionate about this topic as a mom to four children, and a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren. The world my grandchildren are growing up in is so different than the world I raised their parents in, but there is a lot we can do to help our kids stay safe in our digital age.

Here are some helpful tips that you can start today:

  • Honestly and openly discuss appropriate online content

  • Keep digital devices in open spaces

  • Limit daily device time with a hard dinner break

  • Implement a phone basket for everyone (even mom & dad)

  • Install filtering software with robust parental controls

  • Implement a digital Sabbath lasting just one day each week

The porn industry is unapologetic in wanting to addict our children. That’s why we all need to stay informed, involved, and step up to protect our kids. You can view more digital safety resources for your family below.
