Fight for Property Tax Relief
Texans pay some of the highest property taxes of any state and must have relief! Like you, I’m impacted by skyrocketing property taxes, and this continued increase is simply unsustainable. We never really “own” our homes; we simply pay higher and higher taxes for the privilege of living in our homes. Home ownership shouldn’t be threatened by government greed.
Secure the Border; Enforce the Ban on Sanctuary Cities
Texas must have strong, secure borders and end policies that encourage illegal immigration. The Constitution and our borders are what define us as a nation. If we fail to protect either, we will cease to exist as a place in the world that secures and protects for its citizens the inalienable rights afforded us by our Creator, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
We are a nation of immigrants and I support legal immigration. Legal immigration processes are critical and must be honored and protected.
I fully support the Legislature’s action in passing a ban on sanctuary cities, because dangerous criminal aliens who break our laws should be deported.
I support legislative and executive efforts to secure our borders including the use of physical barriers such as a wall, technology and increased federal border patrol officers.
Work Tirelessly to Improve Education
I’ve devoted 22 years to the rewarding field of education, including teaching in public and private schools and homeschooling. I bring an informed and personal perspective to the education issue to which our state devotes 52% of its general revenues.
Our citizen legislature relies upon varied experience and knowledge among its members, and we need more representation from those who have actually taught in a classroom. I’ve had the privilege of teaching students pre-calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and college algebra. For the past 11 years, I’ve worked at Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco.
As the first member of my family to graduate from college, I know that education is a powerful asset and a sacred trust. I want to make sure our taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and efficiently, making sure our education system is the best it can be for every Texas child. I will defend the right and responsibility of parents to make educational decisions for their children.
We must reform teacher retention practices so we can keep the brightest and best educators in the classroom. We must reduce bureaucracy and remove mandates that do not lead to efficiencies or better student learning. I support expanded opportunities for parents to choose public, private, and home school options that meets the individual needs of their children.
Oppose New Taxes and Wasteful Government Spending
As Ronald Reagan famously said, “We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem.” Government spending needs to be reduced to match revenues at all levels of government and should be focused on core government responsibilities such as justice, transportation and infrastructure, public safety, and education.
I’m a working mom who grew up in modest circumstances. I believe in common-sense, conservative fiscal discipline. State functions, programs and agencies which can’t justify their value to taxpayers should be cut or abolished. I will always oppose efforts to raise taxes, and will fight to cut taxes.
Promote Jobs and a Strong Texas Economy
There’s a reason that thousands of people from California, New York and other high tax, big government states are flocking to Texas and Senate District 8. Personal responsibility, a fair legal system plus low taxes and limited, predictable regulation lead to a growing, thriving economy. Texas has led the way in modeling how limited government allows the private sector to create jobs and opportunity for our citizens. Despite our success, there are those who will continue to push for new regulations, higher taxes, and more intrusive government intervention in the economy. I will oppose those efforts at every turn.
Stand for Life
My life began as the result of an unplanned pregnancy, and I’m thankful my birth mother chose life. As an adopted child, I have a deeply personal perspective on the value of human life: I was born on Valentine’s Day 1963 and was welcomed into my new family the day after I was born.
Because of my birth mother’s brave decision, I’ve had the opportunity to experience the joys and challenges of life, raise a family, know the great love of my Savior, and I hope in turn to have impacted the lives of others. I believe all unborn children should have those same opportunities. No society that denies the basic right to life can possibly claim to offer freedom.
We must protect the sacredness of life from conception to natural death, including protections for the elderly and those with physical or mental disabilities. If we do not, true liberty and any subsequent pursuit of happiness are impossible. I believe that all people have dignity. The way we treat the defenseless among us is the measure of the nobility of our culture.
Defend Religious Liberty
The first freedom enshrined in the Bill of Rights must be protected. To exercise religious freedom means that a person may freely take public or private action, including speech, based on their sincerely held religious beliefs with the protection of the government and without penalty from the government.
Defend the Second Amendment
As a gun owner, LTC holder and proud member of the NRA and TSRA, I’ll fight to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. Former President Obama’s positions against gun rights heightened my awareness of how fragile those rights can be under a hostile administration. We can never take our freedoms for granted, and one important way to protect our freedoms is by actively exercising them.
Honor the Constitution
The primary responsibility of a state senator is to protect the constitutional liberties of the citizens through lawmaking designed to provide for justice, security, infrastructure and education. Each law must be assessed as to its merit in constitutionally protecting liberty. Law that assaults, weakens or erodes constitutional rights, structures or processes must be rejected.
